What a chess session at Mayo looks like
Parents often ask what actually happens in a session. A typical one has three parts.
Warm-up: light movement and stretching so muscles and joints are ready.
Skill work: the coach works on openings, tactics and endgames, in small groups by age and level so each child gets attention.
Game or practice play: children use the skills in a match, rally, bout or game, then cool down.
Children train on the school campus under the coach's supervision. Ask the office to show you the training area on a visit.
The chess academy at Mayo International School in Patparganj is open to children from other schools as well as Mayo students. Sessions run before and after school hours, the first session is a free trial, and school transport is available — ask the office about your stop.
