Books and uniform rules in Delhi

What schools must publish, where you can buy, and how often a uniform can change.

IN SHORT

The Directorate of Education's orders say private schools in Delhi must publish their list of books and uniform details in advance, and parents are free to buy them from any shop. Schools should not change the uniform frequently. Concerns can be raised with the school and then the DoE.

Before the session

  • Check the book list on the school website or notice board
  • Compare prices; second-hand books from seniors are fine where editions match
  • Label everything with your child's name and class

Questions parents ask

Can a Delhi school force us to buy books from its shop?
