Delhi quota eligibility: DTU, NSUT and Delhi NEET

How studying at a school in Delhi opens the 85% Delhi region seats for engineering and medicine — and what it takes.

IN SHORT

About 85% of seats at Delhi's state engineering universities (DTU, NSUT, IIIT-Delhi, IGDTUW, admitted through JAC Delhi) and of the state-quota seats at Delhi's government medical colleges are kept for Delhi candidates. For engineering, a Delhi candidate is one who passes the qualifying exam (Class XII) from a school in the NCT of Delhi; for the Delhi medical colleges, Class XI and Class XII must both be passed from a school in Delhi. The parents' address is not the test. Mayo International School is a CBSE school in Patparganj, East Delhi, with school buses from Indirapuram, Vaishali, Vasundhara and Kaushambi.

Admission is on the JEE Main rank, through the Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi. About 85% of seats are for the Delhi region and about 15% for candidates from outside Delhi, so a Delhi candidate competes for a much larger pool of seats.

A Delhi region candidate is one who has passed the qualifying examination (Class XII) from a recognised school located in the NCT of Delhi. Where the family lives does not decide it.

Medicine: Delhi state quota through NEET

Delhi's government medical colleges under Delhi University and GGSIPU keep 85% of their state-quota seats for Delhi candidates; the other 15% go to the All India Quota.

To count as a Delhi candidate for these seats, a student must have passed both Class XI and Class XII from a recognised school in Delhi. That is why the choice of school for Class XI matters.

Studying in Delhi means attending in Delhi

Mayo does not offer or support dummy admission. The Delhi quota rewards studying in Delhi — every Mayo student attends school full time, with JEE and NEET preparation inside the school day.

CBSE requires 75% attendance to sit the board exams and has acted against schools running dummy admissions. A board exam put at risk puts the Delhi quota at risk with it.

JEE and NEET preparation at Mayo

Preparation with Physics Wallah and VMC happens inside the school timetable, not in a coaching centre after school.

34 Mayo students qualified JEE and 21 qualified NEET in 2026.

Class XI admission for 2027-28 is open until 15 December 2026 (40 seats this round).

Check the current rules

The exact rules are set each year by JAC Delhi (for DTU, NSUT, IIIT-Delhi and IGDTUW) and by Delhi University and GGSIPU (for the Delhi medical colleges). Always read the current year's information brochure before deciding.

Questions parents ask

How do I get the Delhi quota in DTU or NSUT?

Pass Class XII from a recognised school in the NCT of Delhi; JAC Delhi then counts you as a Delhi region candidate for about 85% of seats, admitted on your JEE Main rank. Check the current JAC Delhi brochure.

Can a student living in Noida or Ghaziabad get the Delhi quota?

For JAC Delhi, eligibility depends on passing Class XII from a school in Delhi, not on where the family lives. For the Delhi medical colleges, both Class XI and XII must be passed from a school in Delhi.

Is parents' domicile needed for the Delhi quota?

Not for JAC Delhi engineering or the Delhi medical-college quota, which go by where the student passed school. Rules are revised each year, so read the current brochure.

What is needed for the Delhi state quota in NEET?

Passing Class XI and Class XII from a recognised school in Delhi, along with qualifying NEET.

Does a dummy school in Delhi count?

Mayo does not offer or recommend dummy admission. CBSE requires 75% attendance for the board exams, and a board exam put at risk puts the Delhi quota at risk too.

Does Mayo run buses from Ghaziabad?

Yes: Indirapuram (28 stops), Vaishali (6 stops), Vasundhara (7 stops), Kaushambi (5 stops).
