How to apply for nursery admission in Delhi

Delhi's private-school nursery admissions follow a common schedule each year. Here is the whole process, start to seat.

IN SHORT

Check your child's age for the session, shortlist schools, read each school's published criteria and points, and fill each school's form within the Directorate of Education's schedule — usually from late November. Schools then publish lists of selected children; secure the seat by verifying documents and paying the fee on time. EWS and DG seats are applied for separately, through the Directorate's online lottery.

How Delhi's process works

For private recognised schools, the Directorate of Education sets a common calendar for entry-level classes each year: when forms open and close, and when lists are published. Each school runs its own admission for its general seats against the criteria it has published.

Seats for economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups (DG) are filled through the Directorate's online application and computerised lottery.

Tips

  • Apply to several schools, and note each one's closing date
  • Work out your points for each school from its published criteria
  • Visit before you apply — see the classrooms, the play area and the bus arrangements
  • Keep copies of every form and receipt
