Documents for nursery admission

What to keep ready before forms open, what proves each admission criterion, and the mistakes that hold up an application.

For nursery admission in Delhi, keep ready your child's birth certificate, proof of your address, a parent's photo ID and recent passport photographs. If you claim points for a sibling, an alumni parent or another criterion, add the proof for each. Make sure the child's name and date of birth match on every document.

The basic set

  • Child's birth certificate, issued by the municipal corporation or registrar of births
  • Address proof: Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, driving licence, a recent electricity, water or telephone bill, or a registered rent agreement
  • A parent's photo ID
  • Recent passport-size photographs of the child and parents

Proof for each criterion you claim

Schools give points for criteria they publish. Claim only what you can prove:

EWS and DG seats

Seats for economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups are applied for through the Directorate of Education's online system, not the school's form, with the income or category certificate the notice asks for.

Mistakes that hold up an application

  • Child's name or date of birth spelt differently on two documents
  • An address proof in neither parent's name
  • Blurred or cut-off photos of a document
  • Claiming a criterion without its proof

Mayo's list

Upload a clear phone photo of each in the online form; bring the originals for verification. The office may also ask for a medical fitness certificate from an MBBS doctor and a parent's PAN card.

Nursery admission for 2027-28 is open until 15 December 2026 (60 seats this round).

Questions parents ask

Which documents are required for nursery admission in Delhi?

The child's birth certificate, proof of address, a parent's photo ID and passport photographs, plus proof for any criterion you claim, such as a sibling in the school.

Is the child's Aadhaar card required?

At Mayo it is asked for only if it has been issued. Other schools set their own list.

Which address proof is accepted?

Usually Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, driving licence, a recent utility bill or a registered rent agreement. Check each school's list.

Can I upload phone photos of documents?

At Mayo, yes — a clear phone photo of each is enough for the online form; originals are checked at verification.
