Nursery points system in Delhi

Each school publishes its own criteria and points. Here is how to read them and work out where your child stands.

IN SHORT

In Delhi, each private recognised school sets its own nursery admission criteria and points within the Directorate of Education's rules, and publishes them before forms open. Common criteria are distance from home, a sibling in the school, an alumni parent, a girl child and a single parent. Add up your points for each school from its published list; where children tie, schools usually decide by a draw of lots.

Common criteria

Points differ from school to school. Criteria you will often see:

  • Neighbourhood or distance from home, usually in bands, with more points for nearer homes
  • A brother or sister already studying in the school
  • A parent who studied at the school (alumni)
  • Girl child
  • Single parent
  • Child of a school staff member

How to work out your score

  • Download each school's criteria for the year
  • Measure distance the way the school says — usually from home to school
  • Add the points for each criterion you can prove with a document
  • Compare across schools and apply widely, including where your score is strong

Check the rules for the year

The Directorate of Education has struck down some criteria in past years, and a school's list must follow the current rules. Read the year's notice alongside each school's criteria.

At Mayo

Mayo's registration form asks for your distance from school and whether you have a sibling at Mayo, are a Mayo alumnus or alumna, a staff ward, a girl child or a single parent. Ask the admissions office for the year's criteria.

Nursery admission for 2027-28 is open until 15 December 2026 (60 seats this round).
