NURSERY ADMISSION · DRAW

Nursery draw of lots in Delhi

Why schools hold a draw, how it should be run, and what to do whether or not your child's name comes up.

IN SHORT

When more children have the same points than there are seats, Delhi schools break the tie with a draw of lots. The draw should be held openly, in the presence of parents, and recorded on video; the school then publishes its selection list and waiting list. Nursery admission for 2027-28 opens on 1 November 2026.

After the draw

  • Check the selection list and the waiting list on each school's notice board and website
  • Pay the fees and submit documents by the date given, or the seat moves down the waiting list
  • Waiting lists move as families take up other offers — keep checking until the last list

If you have a question

Ask the school for its points list and the record of the draw. If a concern is not resolved, the Directorate of Education's notice names the grievance cell for the year.

Questions parents ask
