PARENT GUIDE · EARLY YEARS

Is my child ready for school?

Readiness is about independence and confidence more than letters and numbers. A checklist for Nursery and Class 1.

IN SHORT

A child is ready for nursery when they can be away from you for a few hours, say what they need, use the toilet with a little help and join a short activity. For Class 1, add: following simple instructions in a group, holding a pencil and sitting for a short task. Reading and counting are not required at entry. Nursery: at least 3 and under 4 years old on 31 March of the year the session starts.
